Challenging the perceptions of migration in Africa
The story of African migration is often framed as a mass exodus from conflict or climate change and we have all seen the pictures of African migrants in boats arriving in Europe. But what is the situation really like on the African continent? How much has the African migrant population increased, if any? And where does the African migrant migrate to?
Few things are as contested as migration and the rhetoric used about migrants often witness of a suspicion towards the ”others”, also in African countries. What are the challenges linked to migration on the continent? And moreover, is migration inherently a negative phenomenon? Or could it also be a source of prosperity, innovation and sustainable development?
