Libya: is the migrant crisis finally over?

28. mai, kl. 19:00-20:30
The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime
Litteraturhuset

Since 2013, hundreds of thousands of migrants have left Libya’s shores in overstuffed and unseaworthy boats, to seek asylum and opportunity in Europe. But this year, departures are down almost 75%, and there is cautious optimism among some governments that the crisis days when tens of thousands of migrants reached European shores each month might be over.

This public discussion by international expert, Mark Micallef of the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime, examines the question whether we can expect a sustainable end to the number of people crossing, and what the implications might be for Libya’s conflict, the safety of migrants in Libya, and the risks for the European states who have intervened.
